Controls Team Update (2/3/2017)

First off, I want to give a big shout out to Brett Henderson and Vivotek Inc. Brett came out from Thousand Oaks to check out our lab and hook us up with some awesome cameras for Titan II. Our camera system will be nothing short of extraordinary thanks to Brett and his team at Vivotek Inc.

In other news, things are starting to come together for the controls team. We are getting all the products we need to start implementing our plans.

We recently received our new centimeter accuracy GPS unit and have been hard at work getting it setup and outputting the data we need for our autonomous control system. Our manual mobility system is getting most of the kinks worked out and we are experimenting with serial communication to the ESC’s. Soon we will be testing autonomous algorithms.

We have also received our actuator controllers so we can start implementing our 1 to 1 arm control, as well as start playing around with the inverse kinematics solutions we have been researching.

Our communications system from Ubiquiti should be arriving this week so we can start testing out our range and bandwidth capabilities. Coupled with the new cameras, we should get a good idea of what these new systems will allow us to do.

On the science side of things, we have received the last of the sensors needed for our science cache. We are beginning the prototype stages now. Work on the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is ongoing, we are awaiting the purchase of some fundamental pieces of equipment in order to proceed. System is mapped out and ready to be tested otherwise, stay tuned for more information on it!
